One of my favourite questions I ask during my onboarding process is where I get to find out the big ‘why’ – what each client is working towards, where they want to be and why that’s so important to them.
It can actually be a deciding factor as to whether I think myself and the SP team are the right fit. While we don’t need to perfectly align, the story and vision behind a brand is really important. I like to really connect with each one of my clients and to see the passion and background behind the work we’re doing.
If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ll know that ‘purposeful’ and ‘intentional’ are words I’ve previously selected in years of my business. I still use these today, helping to guide me towards those I feel I could do my best work with.
It’s not unusual for my clients and leads to share with me that they aren’t bringing in their ideal clients/customers and often when talking to me during one of our Content Strategy or consultancy sessions, they realise they could have spotted the disconnect before they got started. That’s why my process may take a few more steps than somebody else’s, but also why I’m able to develop strong relationships with those I support and to achieve incredible results together.
So be honest, do you ask the ‘why’ question before working with someone new? Could this have had an impact on how a client relationship turned out if you had?
